MCC and the community of Manhattan

At a recent faculty-staff meeting President Kevin Ingram provided an update on the Jolliffe Hall project

First, the Jolliffe Hall project is underway. The inside at the moment is being complete removed to make ready for the new chapel and library that will go in. The demolition derby will last about six weeks. Then the reconstruction phase will begin. The finish date for the Jolliffe Hall project is June 18, 2009. The new building with have an extension to the south which will house stairs and an elevator for the building.

Vern Henricks, who is the head of development for the school (that fancy title means he is in charge of raising the funds to keep the place going) reported on a study done by KSU in regard to MCC students and what they contribute to the community.

Vern reported that the study showed MCC students put $10,000,000 into the community every year. That's a sizable hunk of change. While the Manhattan Mercury is unable to give a line of credit for anything done by MCC, it shows how little they understand the economic impact of the school. How would they like to see a business bringing $10,000,000 into the community annually go out of business? That figure does not included what faculty and staff contribute to the community, just the students.

Vern also reported that MCC students are worth $1,000,000.00 to Kansas State University in the various programs that MCC has that put students on KSU's campus and in their classrooms.
Whatever support we give to MCC comes back to the very community in which we live. It also is seen in the lives that have been committed to the kingdom of God and are serving around the world.
